Department: Accounting

Location:  On-Site

Shift:  Monday - Friday, 8-hour day shift

Wage: $114,300 - $139,700 per year, depending on experience

Position Overview: The Accounting Manager oversees the accounting department and is responsible for monitoring general accounting practices, developing internal controls, and maintaining completeness and accuracy of the company’s general ledger accounts. 

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Manages day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, cash flow, and general ledger. 
  • Responsible for month end close process, including review of all journal entries and account reconciliations, and preparation of month-end reports.  
  • Manages Accounts Payable and Staff Accountants, including providing guidance on proper G/L coding. 
  • Prepares and review month end financial statements for hand off to the Finance Manager for variance analysis. 
  • Ensures the fixed assets schedule is managed and maintained with strict adherence to fixed assets guidelines and ties to general ledger. 
  • Provides recommendations on chart of accounts and overall process improvements. 
  • Partners with external accountants to provide information necessary for completion of annual audit and company tax returns. 
  • Responsible for timely filing of all tax reports and payments. 
  • Oversees sales tax reporting process utilizing Avalara.  
  • Develops and prepares a variety of reports, worksheets, and analyses for the purpose of supporting the informational needs of the department and company. 
  • Oversees vendor setup process, ensuring proper determination for 1099 needs. 
  • Prepares governmental and trade surveys and compliance documents.  
  • Provides assistance and support for external agencies and/or auditors as required. 
  • Ensures all company assets are monitored and accurately accounted for. 
  • Contributes to vision and direction of accounting initiatives within the organization. 
  • Fills in and supports duties of others in the accounting department when needed and works as part of a team to help meet monthly goals. 
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures and operates all equipment in a safe and food-safe manner. 
  • Complies with Bob’s Red Mill food safety policies and procedures including adherence to FDA regulations, Safe Quality Food (SQF) Standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs). 
  • Responsible for reporting food safety and quality concerns to Supervisors and/or Department Manager. 
  • Performs other duties and tasks as assigned.

  • Possesses a high-level understanding of business processes used throughout the organization. 
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure. 
  • Familiar with accounting software. 
  • In-depth understanding of GAAP and best practices. 
  • Ability to run, audit, and communicate reports effectively. 
  • Ability to make presentations to executive management, department managers, supervisors, and staff. 
  • Ability to effectively prepare and present financial and narrative reports for the purpose of communicating concepts and results to internal management and staff. 
  • Ability to provide clear and concise business communication. 
  • Skilled in using Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 
  • Ability to use advanced Excel functions, including but not limited to formulas, pivot tables, and graphs. 
  • Possesses effective communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Skilled in using ERP and supporting software. 
  • Ability to read, understand, and communicate information effectively in English with professional proficiency.

  • Ability to work in an environment where exposure to potential food allergens is or may be present.  

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  

  • This position has direct oversight of Accounting teams. 
  • This position reports to the Director of Accounting. 

Qualifications

Education and Experience: 

  • 7 or more years of accounting experience, AND 
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, finance, or similar field; OR 
  • Any combination of education and additional years of experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge, and ability to perform assigned tasks. 
  • MBA and/or CPA preferred. 

 

Preferred Skills: 

  • Knowledge of consumer packaged goods accounting needs. 

 

Physical Demands:   

  • Position requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time, up to 2 hours.  

 

Work Environment:  

  • The primary environment is within a general office setting with no adverse conditions present. 
  • Employees will be exposed to common food allergens.
